Launched in 2012, the 560-4 variation of the first Lamborghini wholly under Audi supervision was an advancement masked by a resemblance to its predecessor.

For a long time, Lamborghini produced only extreme supercars that weren't practical for daily driving. None of them compared to a Ferrari or a Porsche Turbo. Some aspirin were required after a "relaxed" trip in a Countach or a Diablo. The Gallardo, though, was unique. It was a simple vehicle to operate and could go quite quickly on rails and highways. Its high sales were one of the factors that made it the most popular model in Lamborghini history. Many customers bought it with the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as well.

The inside of the 2012 model was updated and improved. Additionally, the round dials on the instrument cluster of the Gallardo were unique since Audi moved the majority of its vehicles to the Audi Virtual Cockpit. The 2012 Gallardo's interior features, like as the updated infotainment system and optional Alcantara-wrapped dashboard, made living simpler.

The outdated 5.0-liter V10 was removed and replaced with a new, 5.2-liter engine for performance management. The original engine's displacement wasn't only increased. Even the cylinder's firing sequence was different. When all the new features were integrated, a new direct-fuel injection system was used, and the results were better than those attained by the 2010 Gallardo Superleggera a few years before.
